Henderson, John S
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Jan. 6, 1846, in Salisbury, N. C. In 1864 he entered the confederate army and served as a private until the close of the civil war.
In 1871 he was elected a delegate to the state constitutional convention, and again in 1875, and in 1876 was elected a representative in the North Carolina state legislature. In 1879 he was elected a state senator, and in 1880 was a delegate to the democratic national convention .
In 1883 he was elected a representative from North Carolina to the forty-ninth congress, and was re-elected to the fiftieth, fifty-first, fifty-second and fifty-third congresses as a democrat.
