Hobart, John Sloss
lawyer, jurist, United States senator, was born in 1738, in Fairfield, Conn. He was judge of the district court of New York, and held several important positions in that state during the revolutionary war, after which he was appointed one of the three judges of the supreme court. He was a member of the United States senate from February to April, 1798, to fill a vacancy; and was then appointed judge of the United States district court of New York. He died Feb. 4, 1805.
