Green, Wharton Jackson

soldier, agriculturist, congressman, was born about 1840, in St. Marks, Fla. Upon the breaking out of the civil war he enlisted in the confederate army; and was promoted to lieutenant-colonel. He was a delegate to the democratic national conventions of 1868 and 1876; and was a presidential elector in 1868. He purchased the famous Tokay Vineyard, in Cumberland county, N. C., and settled there. He was elected a representative from North Carolina to the forty-eighth and forty-ninth congresses as a democrat.
