Gilfillan, Calvin W

educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 20, 1832, in Mercer county, Pa. In 1857 he was elected superintendent of public instruction for Mercer county; in 1861 was appointed district attorney for Venango county; and in 1862 was elected to the same position. In 1868 he was elected a representative from Pennsylvania to the forty-first congress as a republican.

GILFILLAN, CHARLES DUNCAN, lawyer, was born July 4, 1831, in New Hartford, N. Y. St. Paul sent him three times to the lower house of the Minnesota legislature and three times to the senate, and he has also been president of the St. Paul water board. The Gilfillan block and other business buildings in the city belong to him.
