Gilfillan, John B

lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Feb. 11, 1835, at Barnet, Vt. He was prosecuting attorney of Hennepin county, Minn., from 1863 to 1867, and from 1869 to 1873; and was city attorney of Minneapolis from 1861 to 1864. He was a member of the state senate of Minnesota from 1875 to 1885; became regent of the state university of Minnesota in 1880, and continued in that office. He was elected a representative from Minnesota to the forty-ninth congress as a republican.
