Griswold, Rufus Wilmot

journalist, author, poet, was born Feb. 15, Feb. 15 , 1815, in Benson, Vt. He was an industrious compiler and litcompiler and literary editor who possessed but slight amount of critical insight and discrimination. His best known publications are, Female Poets of America; Prose Writers of America; Poets and Poetry of America; and Sacred Poets of England and America. His other works include Washington and the Generals of the Revolution; The Republican Court; Scenes in the Life of the Saviour; and Napoleon and the Marshals of the Empire. He died Aug. 27, 1857, in New York city.
