Gallegos, Jose M
soldier, state legislator, congressman, was born Nov. 14, 1815, in Rio Arriba county, N. M. He was a member of the legislative assembly of Mexico in 1843-46; a member of the first legislative assembly of the territory of New Mexico in 1850-51, and was elected delegate to congress in 1854. He was speaker of the territorial house of representatives in 1860-62; quartermaster-general of the territorial militia, and treasurer of the territory for five years. He was superintendent of Indian affairs in New Mexico in 1868, and was elected delegate to the forty-second congress as a democrat.
