Fowler, Samuel Page

antiquarian, was born April 22, 1800, in Danvers, Mass. He learned of his father the trade of tanner, and from early manhood to 1875 successfully carried on that business in his native town. He made a study of our native birds, and contributed numerous interesting articles horticultural subjects; on The Cultivation of Native Trees and Shrubs; on Birds of New England; Destruction of Insects Injurious to Vegetation; Ornithology; and other subjects. He was one of the organizers of the Essex County Natural History society; was its curator during 1846-48; and was curator of Essex institute during 1848-56. He represented Danvers in the general court in 1837-39; and was a member of the Massachusetts constitutional convention in 1853. He died in 1895, in Danvers, Mass.
