soldier, lawyer, journalist, state legislator, was born April 5, 1829, in New Berlin, N. Y.
He served with distinction through the civil war in the sixth Michigan infantry. While a member of the Michigan state legislature he was the author of and secured the passage of the Soldiers' Voting bill. During 1867-85 he published the Manistee Times, afterward known as the Standard .
He was three times the democratic candidate for state senator; and was a colonel on the governor's staff. He died Oct. 3, 1894.
