Dall, William Healey

naturalist, author, was born Aug. 21, 1845, in Boston, Mass. He is a naturalist of distinction who has been connected with the United States coast survey and the geological survey. He is the author of Alaska and its Resources; Tribes of the Extreme Northwest; Scientific Results of the Exploration of Alaska; Coast Pilot of Alaska; Pacific Coast Pilot; and Reports on the Mollusca of the Blake Expedition. DALLAS, ALEXANDER JAMES, statesman, author, was born June 21, 1759, on the Island of Jamaica. He was a noted statesman who was secretary of state in 1796-1801, and secretary of the treasury under Madison. He was the author of Features of Jay's Treaty; Speeches on the Trial of Blount; Address to Constitutional Republicans; and Causes and Character of the Late War. He died Jan. 14, 1817, in Trenton, N. J.
