Bynum, William Dallas

lawyer, legislator, congressman, was born June 26, 1846, in Newberry, Ind. In 1871-75 he was city attorney of Washington, Ind.; its mayor during 1875-79; and in 1876 he was a democratic elector. He subsequently moved to Indianapolis; was a member of the state legislature in 1882; and elected speaker of the house at the beginning of the session of 1883. He was elected to the forty-ninth, fiftieth, fifty-first, fifty second, and fifty-third congresses as a democrat; and took an active part in important measures. He was instrumental in the organization of the democratic sound money movement.
