Buttz, Charles Wilson
soldier, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Nov. 16, 1837, in Stroudsburg, Pa. He entered the union army in 1861 as second lieutenant, and rose to the rank of brevet major; and in 1863 resigned because of ill-health. He engaged in the practice of law at Norfolk, Va.; and was a delegate to the republican national convention of 1864. In 1872 he was elected solicitor of the first judicial circuit of South Carolina for the term of four years; and was elected to fill the vacancy in the fortyfourth congress.
