Burrows, Julius C
lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was born Jan. 9, 1837, in North East, Pa. He was an officer in the union army in 1862-64; and prosecuting attorney of Kalamazoo county in 1865-67. He was elected a representative to the forty-third, fortysixth and forty-seventh congresses; and elected a delegate at large from Michigan to the national republican convention at Chicago in 1884. He was elected to the forty-ninth, fiftieth and fifty-first gresses, twice elected speaker pro tempore of the house of representatives during the fifty-first congress, and was elected to the fifty-second, fifty-third and fiftyfourth congresses as a republican. He resigned his seat in the house in 1895 to assume the office of United States senator from Michigan for term expiring in 1899. con-
