Burnell, Barker
state legislator, congressman, was born in Nantucket, Mass. When only twenty-two years of age he was chosen a member of the house of representatives in his native commonwealth; and a few years later passed into the senatorial body, where, in spite of his youth, he became a leading member. He sat also in the convention which framed the present constitution of Massachusetts; took an active part in the Harrisburg convention of 1840; and served as a representative in congress from Massachusetts from 1841 to 1843. He died June 4, 1843, in Washington, D. C.
