Buchanan, Hugh

soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Sept. 15, 1823, in Scotland. He was elected to the state senate of Georgia in 1855, and re-elected in 1857. He was a delegate to the democratic national convention of 1856; was a presidential elector in 1860; delegate to the democratic national convention of 1868; was a judge of the superior court from 1872 until 1880. He was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1877; and was elected a representative from Georgia to the forty-seventh and forty-eighth congresses.
