Brooks, Joseph
clergyman, state senator, governor, was born Nov. 1, 1821, in Butler county, Ohio. When the civil war began, he became chaplain of the first Missouri artillery. He afterwards aided in raising the eleventh and thirtythird Missouri regiments, and was transferred to the latter as chaplain. He removed to Little Rock in the autumn of 1868, and was elected state senator in 1870. In 1872 he became governor. He was appointed postmaster at Little Rock in March, 1875, and held the office till his death. He died April 30, 1877, in Little Rock, Ark.
