Bowman, Thomas (Merchant congressman was born)

merchant, congressman, was born May 25, 1848, in Wiscasset, Maine. He is a descendant of John Bridge, the puritan. He moved to Council Bluffs in 1868, where he engaged in commercial business; was elected treasurer of Pottawattamie county in 1875, and re-elected in 1877 and 1879. He was elected mayor of Council Bluffs in 1882; and was appointed postmaster in 1885 and served until 1889. He was elected to the fifty-second congress as a democrat. He was again appointed postmaster of Council Bluffs in 1894.
