Botts, John Minor
lawyer, congressman, author, was born Sept. 16, 1802, in Dumfries, Va. He served in the legislature from 1833 to 1839, when he was elected a representative in congress from Virginia, and occupied that position until 1843. He was also elected to the thirtieth congress.
During the rebellion he remained faithful to the government of the United States; and was a delegate to the Philadelphia loyalists' convention of 1866. He was the author of Letters on the Nebraska Question; and The Great Rebellion. He died Jan. 7, 1869, in Culpeper, Va.
