Boker, George Henry

diplomatist, author, poet, was born Oct. 6, 1823, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a poet and diplomat of Philadelphia, and United States minister to Turkey and Russia. He is the author of four tragedies, Calaynos; Anne Boleyn; Lenor de Guzman; Francesca da Rimini, the first and last are the finest, the last having been revived with success in very recent years. His volumes of verse include The Lesson of Life; Poems of War: The Book of the Dead; Königsmark; Street Lyrics; Our Heroic Themes. Plays of lesser rank are The Widow's Marriage; and The Betrothal.

He died Jan. 2, 1890, in Philadelphia, Pa.
