Boies, Horace

lawyer, governor, was born Dec. 7, 1827, in Aurora, N. Y.

In 1857 he was a member of the state assembly, and later resided in Buffalo. Soon after the close of the war Mr. Boies removed to Waterloo, Iowa, where he quickly obtained a profitable law practice. In 1884 he left the republican party and became a democrat, being elected by them governor of Iowa in 1890, to which office he was re-elected. In June, 1892, he was a prominent western candidate for the nomination to the presidency, and he is the democratic leader in his state.
