Black, George R

soldier, lawyer, United States senator, was born March 24, 1835, in Scriver county, Ga. He divided his attention between the law and agriculture; and served in the confederate army during the war of the rebellion, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

He was a delegate to the state constitutional convention of 1865; and also to the democratic national convention of 1872. He was a state senator from 1874 to 1877; and was elected a representative from Georgia to the forty-seventh congress.
