Bissell, William H

soldier, lawyer, congressman, governor, was born April 25, 1811, in Hartwick, N. Y. In 1840 he was elected to the Illinois state legislature. In 1844 was elected a prosecuting attorney. He served with distinction in the Mexican war; was a representative in congress from Illinois from 1849 to 1855; and in 1856 was elected governor of Illinois for four years. He died March 18, 1860, in Springfield, Ill.

BISSELL, WILLIAM HENRY AUGUS- TUS, bishop, was born Nov. 14, 1814, in Randolph, Vt. He was elected Protestant Episcopal bishop of Vermont, and consecrated in Christ's church, Montpelier, June 3, 1868.
