Bingham, Henry H
lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 4, 1841, in Philadelphia, Pa. He entered the union army as a lieutenant in the one hundred and fortieth Pennsylvania volunteers; was wounded at Gettysburg, Pa., in 1863, at Spottsylvania, Va., in 1864, and at Farmville, Va., in 1865; and was mustered out of service July, 1866, as brevet brigadiergeneral of volunteers. He was appointed postmaster of Philadelphia in 1867; and was delegate at large to the republican national convention at Philadelphia in 1872, also delegate from the first congressional district to the republican national convention at Cincinnati in 1876, at Chicago in 1884 and 1888, at Minneapolis in 1892, and at St. Louis in 1896. He was elected to the forty-sixth, forty-seventh, forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, fiftyfirst, fifty-second, fifty-third, and fiftyfourth congresses and re-elected to the fifty-fifth congress as a republican.
