Bennett, Thomas W
soldier, state senator, congressman, was born Feb. 16, 1831, in Union county, Ind. He graduated at the Asbury university law school in 1854; was elected to the Indiana senate in 1858; entered the union army in 1861 as a captain; served through the war, and became a brigadier-general of volunteers.
He was re-elected to the Indiana senate in 1864, serving four years; and was elected mayor of Richmond, Ind., in 1869, serving two years. He was appointed governor of Idaho in 1871, serving until December, 1875, when he resigned to take his seat as a delegate from Idaho to the fortyfourth congress.
