Hubbard, his father-in-law, Prof. Bell organized, in 1878, the American Bell Telephone company, to introduce telephone service into general use throughout the United States. Subordinate companies came into existence in various sections of the United States, and after protracted litigation and contention with the Western Union Telegraph company, Prof. Bell established his rights, and the telephone has now become one of the most necessary, as it is one of the most useful, facilities for the transaction of every -day business.
