Bayard, Samuel
lawyer, jurist, author, was born Jan. 11, 1767, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was one of the founders of the New York Historical society, organized in 1804. In 1806 he purchased an estate at Princeton, N. J. For several years he was a member of the New Jersey legislature, and for a long period presiding judge of the court of common pleas of Somerset county. He was one of the founders of Princeton Theological seminary, and joined with Elias Boudinot in establishing the American Bible society and the New Jersey Bible society. He was the author of several law compilations.
He died May 12, 1840, in Princeton, N. J.
