Battle, William Horn
lawyer, jurist, author, was born Oct. 17, 1802, in Edgecombe county, N. C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina; and was reporter of the supreme court decisions. In 1839 he was a delegate to the convention that nominated William Henry Harrison for the presidency of the United States. During 1840-52 he was judge of the superior court of North Carolina, and during 1852-68 was judge of the supreme court, North Carolina. He was the author of several valuable works on the common and statute laws of his state. He died March 14, 1879, in Chapel Hill, N. C. as a
