Barry, Henry W
soldier, state senator, congressman, was born in New York city. He entered the union army as private early in the war; organized the first regiment of colored troops raised in Kentucky, and commanded a brigade and for a time a division of the army. He was brevetted twice for gallant and meritorious conduct, the last brevet being majorgeneral. He was elected a member of the state constitutional convention of Mississippi in 1867; was elected to the state senate of Mississippi in 1868; and was elected to the forty-first, forty-second and forty-third congresses. He died June 7, 1875, in Washington, D. C.
