Barrow, Pope

soldier, lawyer, United States senator, was born Aug. 1, 1830, in Oglethorpe county, Ga. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1859, and in the law class of that institution of 1860. He served in the confederate army, and at the close of the war of the rebellion resumed the practice of law at Athens, Ga. He was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1877, and was a representative in the state legislature in 1880-81. He was elected a senator of the United States from Georgia to fill a vacancy, and served from 1882 to 1883.
