Ballou, Daniel R

lawyer, legislator, was born Aug. 6, 1837, in Smithfield, R. I. He received his education in the schools of Rhode Island and the Brown university.

During the civil war he served as a union soldier in the twelfth regiment of the Rhode Island volunteer infantry and was promoted lieutenant; also was colonel in the Rhode Island militia. He has served as a member of the Rhode Island general assembly from Smithfield and Providence. He has been a member of the city council of Providence, and president of the board of aldermen. He has attained prominence as an able lawyer, and is the senior member of the law firm of Ballou and Tower of Providence, R. I.
