Baldwin, Roger Sherman
lawyer, United States senator, was born Jan. 4, 1793, in New Haven, Conn. In 1837 he was elected to the state senate; re-elected in 1838, and chosen president pro tempore of that body; and was a trustee of Yale college in 1838 and 1839. In 1840 and 1841 he was a representative in the general assembly.
In 1844 and 1845 he was governor of the state; in 1847 was appointed, and in 1848. elected, to the United States senate by the legislature of Connecticut, serving until 1851. He died Feb. 10, 1863, in New Haven, Conn.
