Baldwin, Augustus C
lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 24, 1817, in Salina, N. Y. In 1837 he emigrated to Michigan and settled in Oakland county; taught school, and at the same time studied law, and came to the bar in 1842. In 1844 and 1846 was elected to the legislature of Michigan; in 1853 and 1854 was prosecuting attorney for his adopted county, and was a delegate to the Charleston and Baltimore conventions of 1860. In 1862 he was elected a representative from Michigan to the thirty-eighth congress.
