Bacon, Ezekiel
jurist, congressman, author, was born Sept. 1, 1776, in Stockbridge, Mass. He graduated at Yale college in 1794; was a member of the state legislature in 1805 and 1806; was a representative in congress from Massachusetts from 1807 to 1813; chief justice of common pleas in 1813; and first comptroller of the United States treasury from 1813 to 1815. He removed to Utica, N. Y., and was a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1821. In 1843 he published Recollections of Fifty Years Since. He died Oct. 18, 1870, in Utica, N. Y.
