Reader, Frank S
soldier, journalist, was born Nov. 17, 1842, in Coal Center, Pa. He served as a soldier during the civil war in the second regiment Virginia volunteer infantry; and in 1863 changed to the fifth regiment of the West Virginia cavalry. He was captured on June 20, 1864, and subsequently escaped. For several years he was a clergyman in the methodist church, but retired on account of ill-health. In 1874 he established the Beaver Valley News of New Brighton, Pa.; and began the daily edition in 1893. He is the author of The Life of Moody and Sankey; A History of the Fifth West Virginia Cavalry; and has contributed various historical sketches and other articles to the periodical press generally.
