Bachmann, Alexander

musician, composer, was born Jan. 2, 1836, in Germany. He is a successful and noted instructor of the piano, organ and violin; a director of choruses; and for many years principal of the Northwestern Musical institute of Philadelphia, Pa. He is said to have taught the largest number of individual pupils of any music teacher in America, many of whom now occupy high positions in the musical world. He has been organist of some of the leading protestant episcopal churches of Philadelphia; and for many years was vocal instructor of the Protestant Episcopal Divinity school. He is the author of considerable church music, and his translations have been a valuable acquisition to musical literature.
