Brown, Arthur
lawyer, United States senator, was born March 8, 1843, in Kalamazoo county, Mich. He commenced the practice of law in 1865 in Kalamazoo, Mich., and in 1879 removed to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he has since resided and engaged in the practice of law. Upon the admission of the state of Utah, he was elected as a republican to the United States senate Jan. 22, 1896, himself and colleague being elected at one and the same time and on the same vote. In drawing lots in the presence of the senate, he drew the short term.
