Yost, Jacob
journalist, congressman, was born April 1, 1853, in Staunton, Va.
In 1875 he purchased an interest in the Valley Virginian, a newspaper published at Staunton, and was actively engaged in journalism till 1889, since which time he has devoted himself to general business, principally in connection with iron ore and coal. He was elected mayor of the city of Staunton in 1886; and was a member of the fiftieth congress. He was the republican nominee for congress in 1888 and again in 1894; and was elected to the fifty-first congress as a republican.
