Woodford, M. De Witt

railroad president, was born Oct. 27, 1838, at Fredonia, N. Y. Since 1893 he has been president of the Cleveland, Lorain and Wheeling railroad, and also of numerous other corporations at Cincinnati, Ohio.

WOODFORD, STEWART LYNDON, soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 3, 1835, in New York city. He was appointed assistant attorney for the United States at New York in 1861. He enlisted in the one hundred and twenty-seventh regiment New York volunteers in 1862; was promoted to the lieutenant-colonelcy of that regiment, and subsequently colonel and brigadier-general. He was elected lieutenant-governor of the state of New York in 1866; and was elected presidential elector at large, and was president of the electoral college in 1872. He was elected to the forty-third congress as a republican.
