Willers, Diedrich (Educator lawyer public)

educator, lawyer, public official, author, was born Nov. 3, 1833, in Varick, N. Y. He was educated principally in the public schools and under the direction of his father. In his youth he taught school for several years, and afterward graduated from the Albany Law school, and was admitted to the bar.

In 1864 he served as private secretary to Governor Horatio Seymour; was elected supervisor of Varick in 1865-66. For six years he was clerk in the office of the secretary of state of Albany; was eight years a deputy; and for two years served with distinction as secretary of state. In 1878 he was a member of the assembly of the New York state legislature, and was on several important committees.

He still resides in the place of his nativity; has given much attention and research to local history, and is the author of several local publications.
