White, Albert Smith

lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was born Oct. 24, 1803, in Blooming Grove, N. Y.

He was a representative in congress from Indiana from 1837 to 1839; and was a senator in congress from 1839 to 1845. He was president of the Wabash and Indianapolis, and of the Lake Erie, Wabash and St. Louis Railroad companies. He was elected a representative from Indiana to the thirty-seventh congress. After leaving congress he was appointed a commissioner to settle certain claims against the Sioux Indians; and in 1864 was appointed judge of the district court of Indiana. He died Sept. 4, 1864, in Stockwell, Ind.
