Whipple, William Denison
soldier, was born Aug. 2, 1826, in Nelson, N.
Y. In 1851 he graduated from the United States Military academy; and in 1865 attained the rank of brevet major-general in the regular army.
WHISTLER, GEORGE WASHINGTON, civil engineer, was born May 19, 1800, in Fort Wayne, Ind. During 1834-37 he was engaged in the reproduction of a locomotive for the Boston and Albany railroad; and subsequently attained success in the manufacture of improved locomotives.
He died April 7, 1849, in Russia.
