Warner, John De Witt

educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Oct. 30, 1851, in Schuyler county, N. Y. For four years he filled the chairs of Latin, German, and elocution in the Ithaca and Albany academies. He was elected from New York city to the fifty-second and fiftythird congresses as a democrat, and took an active part on several important committees on tariff, finance and commercial matters. He was one of the founders of the Shakespeare club of New York city; and the author of Sound Sequence in Shakespeare and other papers on Shakespearian subjects. In 1892 he was the tariff reform editor of the New York Weekly World, and is the author of numerous pamphlets and tariff reform articles. During 1895-96 he was chairman of the reform club's sound currency committee, and its president in 1897.
