Walsh, Patrick
journalist, state legislator, United States senator, was born Jan. 1, 1840, in Ireland. In 1862 he moved to Augusta, Ga., and for forty-two years has been connected with the press of that city, most of the time as manager and editor of the Augusta Chronicle, which was established in 1785. In 1870 he was elected a member of the city council of Augusta, and in 1873-77 he served as a member of the state legislature from Richmond county. In 1894 he was appointed senator from Georgia to fill a vacancy.
