Tillman, George D

soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Aug. 21, 1826, in Edgefield county, S. C. He was a member of the South Carolina state house of representatives in 1854 and 1855, and again in 1864. He served in the confederate army from 1862 to 1865. He was a state senator in 1865; and was elected a representative from South Carolina to the forty-sixth congress; and was again elected to the forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, fifty-first and fifty-second congresses as a democrat.
