Thacher, George

lawyer, jurist, state legislator, congressman, was born April 12, 1754, in Yarmouth, Maine. He was a delegate to the old congress; and on the adoption of the constitution he served as a representative in congress from Massachusetts from 1789 to 1801. In 1792 he was elected a district judge in Maine, serving until 1800, when he was chosen a judge of the supreme court in Massachusetts; and held the latter office until 1824. He died April 6, 1824, in Biddeford, Maine.
