Taylor, John May
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born May 18, 1838, in Lexington, Tenn. He entered the confederate army in 1861; was elected lieutenant; and was subsequently promoted to the rank of major. In 1869 he was elected mayor of Lexington, Tenn.; and was attorney-general of the eleventh judicial circuit from 1870 to 1878. He was a member of the state house of representatives in the called sessions of 1881 and 1882. He was elected a representative from Tennessee to the forty-eighth congress; and was reelected to the forty-ninth congress as a democrat.
