Tappan, Henry Philip

clergyman, author, was born April 23, 1805, in Rhinebeck, N. Y. He was a Dutch reformed chancellor of the university of Michigan, university of the city of New York; and clergyman, professor of philosophy in the 1852-63. He was the author of Elements of Logic; Treatise on Universal Education; Review of Edwards's Inquiry Into the Freedom of the Will; The Doctrine of the Freedom of the Will Determined by an Appeal to Consciousness; The Doctrine of the Freedom of the Will Applied to Moral Agency; A Step from the Old World to the New and Back Again; and Introductions to Illustrious Personages of the Nineteenth Century. He died Nov. 15, 1881, in Switzerland.
