Tainter, Andrew
lumberman, philanthropist, was born July 6, 1823, in Salina, N. Y. In 1832 he moved west to Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and in 1895 moved to Chippewa Falls, Wis. He has attained success in the lumber business; and commanded the first steamboat which was used by his firm on the Chippewa river. He presented to the city of Menominee a public library and Memorial hall, which is the chief ornament of that city. Commencing fifty years ago with no capital, he now owns controlling interests in the largest lumber mills of Wisconsin, and is the wealthiest man in the Chippewa valley.
