Swain, Adeline Morrison

educator, suffragist, was born May 25, 1820, in Bath, N. H. She received her education in the public schools, Newbury seminary, Vermont, and the Troy Conference academy of West Poultney. For many years she was preceptress of the Troy Conference seminary, and teacher of French, Spanish and Italian.

She subsequently held the same poa sition in Nunda Literary institute; and taught drawing and painting in both institutions. In 1883 she was a candidate for state superintendent of public instruction of Iowa; and in 1884 was state delegate at large to the presidential convention held at Indianapolis. She has contributed extensively to current literature on different topics and suffrage work.
