Stewart, Robert Adger

lawyer, orator, was born March 6, 1862, in Abbeville, S. C. He received his education in the South Carolina college and the Hampton institute, Virginia. He has been professor of law and secretary of the law faculty of Allen university, South Carolina; and in 1886 was elected dean of the law department, which he declined. In 1884 he was admitted to the bar; is one of the foremost lawyers of the south at Manning, S. C.; and is well known as the silver-tongued orator of the south. He has received the degree of LL. B., and contributes extensively to law literature.

STEWART, ROBERT MERCELLUS, state senator, governor, was born March 12, 1815, in Truxton, N. Y. In 1845 he was a delegate to the state constitutional convention, and for ten years he was a member of the state senate. He was elected governor of Missouri in 1857.
